Welcome

SensorML is a component of the OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) suite of open standards known as Sensor Web Enablement (SWE). The SWE standards have been implemented around the world in support of a wide range of applications, including, for instance, tsunami and debris flow warning systems, weather and ocean monitoring systems, systems for monitoring, accessing, and processing UAV and satellite imagery/video, homeland security, and defense and intelligence. For more on SWE, see:

SWE consists of three XML encodings, three standard web services, and one standard sensor interface. These standards are described below and links provided to the standards documents.

Sensor Model Language (SensorML) - provides models and XML encodings for describing sensors, actuators, and processes. Support specification description, data lineage, on-demand execution of aggregate processes and workflows, and direct data streaming.

SWE Common Data - provides data models and efficient encodings for support of SWE and any data needs where robust description of data combined with efficient encodings is needed.
